Meet Homaira Akbari
President and CEO
An award-winning thought leader in the security, Internet of Things, mobile and software sectors, Homaira founded AKnowledge Partners in 2012 with the goal of providing C-level executives, companies and private equity firms with unique and proprietary investment theses, and building and implementing adaptive growth or investment strategies.
Drawing on an international track-record that includes nine years working in Paris, London, Beijing and Cape-Town for global organizations, Homaira brings extensive leadership experience, entrepreneurial drive, operational skills and deep domain knowledge to create customized solutions for the unique needs of each client.
Homaira serves on the Boards of Directors of four publicly-traded companies: Banco Santander (NYSE: SAN), Veolia (Euronext: VIE), Landstar System, Inc. (NASDAQ: LSTR), and Gemalto N.V. (Euronext: GTO). She also serves on the Advisory Board of several fastest growing tech and last-mile delivery companies.
Homaira has held senior executive roles in Fortune 500 companies including: Microsoft, Thales, SA, and TruePosition, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Liberty Media Corporation and served as the President and CEO of SkyBitz, Inc., a leading provider of remote asset tracking and security solutions. Under her leadership, SkyBitz had record performance and was successfully sold to Telular Corporation (NASDAQ: WRLS) in 2012.
Homaira holds a Ph.D. with honors in particle physics from Tufts University and an MBA with distinction from Carnegie Mellon Tepper School of Business. She is the author of numerous scientific and industry articles, two patent-pending inventions, and a frequent speaker at industry conferences.
Throughout her life, Homaira has been active in and a contributor to many non-profit organizations. She currently serves as the Chair of Johns Hopkins University Physics and Astronomy Advisory Council. Together with her husband, they have established Akbari-Mack Postdoctoral Fellow in Physics and Astronomy at the Johns Hopkins University.
Meet Randy Mullett
A sought-after authority and frequent speaker on transportation, business strategy, security, and sustainability issues, Randy served as Vice Chair of the National Cooperative Freight Research Program Oversight Committee, a member of USDOT’s National Freight Advisory Committee, and a member of the USDHS Highway and Motor Carrier Sector Coordinating Committee.
He is a member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Expert Network on the future of supply chains and logistics, and has served on the advisory boards of the Maritime Institute at Old Dominion University, the Transportation Sustainability Research Center at Berkeley, and the University of MI Transportation Research Institute, and Board of Directors of The American Trucking Associations and The Air Cargo Association.
Randy’s consulting practice focuses on helping clients in the areas of trucking and freight, technology, sustainability, security and safety policy and practice. Prior to his current role, Randy was vice president, government relations and public affairs, for XPO Logistics (formerly Con-way Inc.), a $7.8B freight transportation and global logistics services company. As a member of Con-way’s Executive Leadership Team reporting directly to the CEO, Randy had global responsibility for all Government Relations and Public Affairs activities, Corporate Security, and Corporate Communications, Public Relations, and Corporate Social Responsibility, and was Con-way’s chief sustainability officer. Randy has spent over 26 years in trucking operations management.
Randy is a graduate of Shepherd University (BS) and Old Dominion University (MBA).
Meet Pete Celano
A twelve year veteran of the Internet of Things, Pete is a subject matter expert on IoT in health Care and Security. He currently advises MedStar Health, a large system in DC/MD/VA with ten hospitals and hundreds of outpatient offices, on their Consumer and IoT Health Initiatives.
Pete was an early employee at one of the great IoT success stories, home security leader Alarm.com (NASDAQ: ALRM) which was spun out of MicroStrategy (NASDAQ: MSTR). As a VP at Alarm.com, Pete also helped start a Remote Patient Monitoring company called BeClose (www.beclose.com), which was a first-mover in healthcare IoT, relating to helping the elderly age-in-place.Prior to launching BeClose, Pete worked in other aspects of healthcare, including his own venture-backed firm that hosted DICOM images for large providers (DashCenter).
Pete serves on the Board of Directors of a Charlotte, NC-based non-profit called Start a Snowball, which makes micro-grants to kids to encourage philanthropy. Start a Snowball has given over $100,000 in $100 increments to children and teens for service projects across all 50 states.
Pete has an MBA and a BA from the University of Virginia, and is a frequent speaker on Healthcare Innovation at industry conferences.
Meet Ken Zarrabi
Ken is a visionary and longtime Silicon Valley executive with extensive expertise in Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), hyperscale cloud storage, big data management, analytics, business intelligence, enterprise software, and security. He has a proven domestic and international track record with start-ups, as well as Fortune 500 technology companies – working in U.S., Europe, Japan, APAC, and China.
Prior to founding Clique Technology in 2015, Ken was Vice President of Toshiba’s IIoT and Cloud Platform divisions. He played a key role in creating and implementing IIoT strategy across all of Toshiba’s companies – positioning them from product to service sales. At joint venture Huawei/Symantec, Ken created and led cloud product and technology strategies across their $30 million security and data protection product portfolio. He was instrumental in securing customers such as Sears a top Fortune 50 Company for Huawei/Symantec. He also held senior management positions at BlueArc, NetApp, LSI logic, and Quantum – enabling him to draw on his broad knowledge of servicing and creating secure IIoT implementations for industries such as transportation, logistics, industrial, and energy.
Ken holds Bachelor of Science degrees from the University of Colorado in mechanical engineering and computer science.
